No. Unfortunate? Yes. It's always sad to hear of a relapse of anyone. At least it seems that he is on the right path now. Macklemore reports, “I held it together for a while. But, eventually, I stopped going to my 12-step meetings.” While it's sad to hear of such an inspirational person in the recovery community suffering a relapse, it sometimes helps those in recovery to learn from the mistakes of others instead of their own. I know that after reading stories of his relapse, I subconsciously re-commited to my own recovery.

And not for negative things. It's making headlines because people feel empathy for those struggling with the disease. (or, whatever you want to call it) Recording artists like Macklemore that have no fear speaking publicly on their recovery, are helping to destigmatize a disease that is causing millions to suffer in silence. An issue that was once quickly swept under the rug or ignored is now becoming more acceptable. Hopefully, this changing tide will lead to more people seeking help with their addictions.
